An Open Letter To The Planning Committee Chairman Of The Upcoming NANS Convention- Moshood Odunayo Olajide

OAU WIKILEAKS OPEN LETTER TO NANS CONVENTION PLANNING COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN, COMRADE OBINNA OBIANOZIE Dear Sir, By way of introduction, I am Moshood Odunayo Olajide, a 200 Level student of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife , and former Public Relations Officer of Great Ife students union Security committee, and the Convener of OAU Wikileaks, a platform currently organizing online interview for NANS Senate and Presidential aspirant. May I begin by congratulating you on your well deserved appointment as the Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee constituted by the NANS President, the Commander of Aluta of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. You have been found worthy to oversee this very important historical and generational assignment, this is inarguably a resounding testament of your competence, character and commitment to service. As you are well aware, the only individual or group constitutionally empowered to screen aspiring candidates during the NANS Convention slated to hold in Taraba State between May 13-15 is the Convention Planning Committee (CPC) comprising of 39 members in which you are the Chairperson while a four man advisory team led by Comrade Yinka Gbadebo was also formed to act in advisory capacity to the CPC. As you assume office, We most respectfully wish to advert your mind to certain issues that requires your attention, needless to say that these issues which are highlighted below are neither novel nor eccentric. Indeed, they are very germane and well known within your knowledge as the generality of Nigerian students and youths are desirous from seeing conceited and sincere actions aimed at addressing them. These issues were relegated and ignored by previous NANS Convention Planning Committee. I do hope that your own time as the Chairperson of the Convention Planning Committee (CPC) will be a departure from the past. First and foremost, the right to life is the most sacred of all fundamental rights. It is guaranteed by Section 33 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. International instruments like Article 3 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948 and Article 4 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights equally guarantees this right. Contrary to these constitutional and legal safeguards, the Convention ground have always been marred with violence and thuggery with neo-fascist elements having a field day in compliance with the directive of moneybags sponsoring them. The Comrade Tokunbo Kennedy led Convention Planning Committee in 2014 which ushered in the emergence of the current President failed to address this aspect very well with several students and observers matcheted. Students are hopeful that you tackle this expeditiously as we cannot afford to lose any soul as everybody is important. Many students have been attacked, killed, in many NANS Convention over the years in circumstances that smacked of cult like complicity and political conspiracy. Students are interested in seeing you tackling all these by liaising effectively with Security agencies and cadets. Secondly, as the Convention Planning Committee Chairman, we expect compliance with and adherence to all the stipulated rules. All aspirants should be treated equally. Delegates should be meticulously and fastidiously scrutinized. Whoever who violates the law during the Convention should be immediately handed over to Security agents for prosecution without recourse to any form of affiliation or status and any aspirant who is not a legitimate student should be disqualified. In summary, there is no doubt about the fact that poiticians and influential business tycoons and organisations will seek to patronise you in the hope of getting certain privileges from you in the course of your duty to favor their candidates. You will see all manner of distractions aimed at dividing your loyalty and commitment to your generational responsibility but remember that your performance is vital to the success of the Taraba Convention in installing a progressive student activist to fight the course of Nigerian students. I urge you to resist overtures that will derail your patriotic devotion to the progress of student movement in the country and be mindful of the verdict of history. May Almighty God be with you. Thank you. Your brother, Moshood Odunayo Olajide Convener, OAU WIKILEAKS NB : To be copied appropriate quarters in due time.
