This is the best of time to call on the President and all other persons concerned to address the bloody clashes that regularly occur between farmers and Fulani herdsmen in various parts of the country for the issue not to escalate the more. The federal government should also call on all law enforcement agencies in the country to order to preventing them from toying with the security of the Nigerian people by engaging in meaningless competition and overzealousness in order to avoid a situation whereby the people would have to prevent themselves against the marauding enemy which might lead to some other thing on the Nigerian soil. We must call on the Nigerian government to make access for adequate security of lives and properties of the people because the people cannot continue to watch as some people destroy their lands.
Through the negligence of the government, the country has continue to witness the reckless killing of innocent farmers and the destruction of farmlands. Farmers, like other citizens, are entitled to the protection of their right to life and property. To halt such wanton killings, the primitive movement of thousands of heads of cattle from the north to the south should be stopped without any further delay. Meanwhile, states that cannot put such in place should make provision for grazing reserves for the Fulanis through the Land Use Act in order to stop unwanton movement of cattles on other peoples' properties which has in these days cause the death of some persons. It must be noted that the act that is being perpetuated by the Fulani is criminality which must be curtailed. Unwanton movement on other peoples properties is trespass. Since it has now involved the destroy of such person's properties, it is called criminal trespass. This has been going on for long, and, I think this is high-time the government address this issue without further delay in order to avert trouble that could roll in.
However, since the federal government is obligated
to protect the life and property of every citizen, urgent
steps should be taken to avert further killings and
destruction of farmlands by herdsmen. The Buhari administration should as a matter of urgency discharge its constitutional duty by stopping the unwarrant killing that could result to civil disobedience and breakdown of laws and orders.
I am also calling on all the Civil Society Organisations to stand up, speak against this evil and take the necessary actions (legal or illegal) to compel the President not to look away at the evil that is being perpetuated by the Fulani herdsmen.
