A team of four Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU) Ile-Ife students, who developed a software, ‘Humane’ for visually impaired smartphone users, has won the Microsoft Imagine Cup Nigeria 2016.
After the semi-finals in Ibadan and other regions, the finals of the Microsoft Imagine Cup Nigeria 2016 was held in Lagos on Friday, March 15th.
11 teams from different tertiary institutions around Nigeria gathered together to slug it out with their innovative pitches in 3 different categories; Innovation, World Citizenship and Games.
At the start of the event, Kabelo Makwane Country Manager Microsoft Nigeria called in from Redmond, Washington to talk to the participants and encourage them.
Seated on the panel of judges from right to leftt were four judges; Abiola Olaniran – CEO Gamsole, Blessing Nnachi – Sales Solutions Specialists Microsoft Nigeria, Olayinka Oni – Information Officer at Sterling Bank and Opeyemi Olaniran Premiere – Field Engineer Manager at Microsoft Nigeria.
Team Humane won with their solution that allows visually impaired people interact with smartphones.
‘Humane’ is virtual sensory software platform that allows visually impaired users to perform tasks on their smartphones which they can’t perform normally.
Team Circuit came second with Ulcerex a non-invasive testing solution for people with ulcer. In third place was Team Elite with IDP Finder.
Team Humane are now qualified to represent Nigeria at the international finals of the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2016.
