Have you ever wondered if there is any discipline known to comprehend the entirety of Human actions and it's interaction with the various forms of Environment?
  A Holistic Subject that studies Man, the Human society, and it's relationship with the Social, Physical, Cultural, Political, Economic, Religious, Psychological, Medical Environment(s), Though sounds rather belittling to Unaware Persons.
SOCIAL STUDIES, is the ONLY Interdisciplinary Subject known to study Human Interaction and its relationship with the Society as a whole. Social Studies integrates various concept from various discipline to become a recognizable and systematically developed body of knowledge. (Ogunsanya 1984)
Social Studies is not a combination of subjects but a Fusion of Subjects just like a cup of tea which comprises of Milk, Sugar, Water, by integrating this elements it produces a different taste which is a " Unique " one called Tea.
  Social Studies essentially studies Human relationships, Human to Human, Human to Institutions, Human to Value systems. Emphasis is on Man's Social, Economic, and Political activities of the past, present, and the Future.
It focuses on the Totality  of Man, rather than in parts as other disciplines would look at Man. Man is unique, he does not live his life in parts, why then should he be studied in parts?
This approach is based on Gestalt Theory that is, a person reacts to any specific stimuli as a whole and not in parts. It creates the awareness of viewing Man from a Holistic Perspective rather than Compartmentalization.
Disciplines such as Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology,Sociology, but to mention a few are Substantive Foundations of Social Studies.
  The Learning experience in Social Studies involves Problem Solving, Critical, and Creative thinking and the development of ability to interpret, analyze, and evaluate a situation.
The relevance of Social Studies to personal, Societal, and national development cannot be Underestimated.
Social Studies experts are Educators by profession, and by extension Social Workers.
