The Salary Amen- Ayomaria

It was on sunday when every christian would be expected to be in church in my highly religious country Nigeria.Though our fervent worship of God is not reflected in the society. That a matter for another day, in church that sunday when the minister was saying prayers for the congregation with which the normal response to these prayers is usually an amen. I noticed as these prayers continued, the noise level of the amen was at the normal level but as the pastor prayed concerning salaries, the amen rose to the highest levels. Which was normal concerning the five months salary owed by the excellency of my modest state, just as an example.
This kept me wondering why would the noise levels of these two "Amens" be different. Why would civil servants of the Nigerian state need to pray fervently and raise their voices for what is their right. Don't get me wrong praying is good. But why would Nigerian workers need to pray and roll on the ground before the salaries they worked tirelessly for is given to them. While those at the helm of affairs continue to launder these resources and buy all sorts of unnecessary items of which the 36 million naira automobiles bought by our legislators of the highest level is a strong example, make useless policies, and the workers continue to suffer with their families.
When in other developed and even in some developing countries, structures are put in place to ensure prompt payment of salaries, as workers have been recognised by the government of these countries to be an essential part of the economy. Sometimes when I see all the disheartening things going on in this country, I weep for my dear country. when humans just embezzle money as If death is not the end of every man...and as if all is nothing but vanity upon vanity..our leaders forget a meaningful life is only evidenced by the number of lives touched not on the number of diamond watches, or cars or private jets acquired. Enough said let me give my pen a deserved rest at this point. And meanwhile let's all continue to say our " salary amens" and raise our voices to God to look with mercy upon our dear nation.
