"For me the national team is over." : Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi retires from international football as the Argentine missed a spot kick in the 4-2 loss to Chile in penalty shoot out.
The victory gave Chile a back-to-back victory over Argentina in two consecutive Copa America finals in two successive years.
Both Argentina and Chile were reduced to 10 men in a fiery first half in a rematch of last year's decider, as Marcos Rojo and Marcelo Diaz saw red, and neither team could break the deadlock after 120 minutes of play in
front of more than 82,000 fans at MetLife Stadium.

After captain and goalkeeper Claudio Bravo denied Sergio Aguero with a stunning finger- tip save in extra time, he was at it again in the shootout, keeping out Lucas Biglia's effort following Lionel Messi's skied shot
over the bar as Francisco Silva stepped up and converted the winning penalty.
The 4-2 shoot-out loss marked a third
consecutive defeat in a final for Argentina, beaten last year as well as beaten by Germany in the 2014 World
Cup.
Immediately after the match  Lionel Messi announced his retirement from international football.
"For me the national team is over. I've done all I can, it hurts not to be a champion," said the five-time Ballon d'or.
"It's been four finals, it's not meant for me. I tried. It was the thing I wanted the most, but I couldn't get it, so I think it's over."
Messi's announcement, just two days after his 29th birthday, comes after Argentina suffered their third loss in a major final since 2014.
They were beaten 1-0 by Germany in the final of the World Cup in 2014 and lost on penalties, also to Chile, in the final of the 2015 Copa America, while Messi also tasted defeat with Argentina in.the final of the 2007 Copa America.
"On top of everything, I missed the penalty kick," Messi added on Argentinian TV network TyC.
"I think this is best for everyone. First of all for me, and then for everyone. I think there's a lot of people who want this, who obviously are not satisfied, as we are not satisfied reaching a final
and not winning it."
Messi had scored five times at this year's Copa America, including a superb free-kick in the semi-final win over hosts the USA, the goal made him his country's record scorer with 55 goals, beating the 54-goal mark of former Argentina striker Gabriel Batistuta.
There after, some of his Argentine teammates reacted to Messi's retirement;
"I think he spoke while he was heated, because a beautiful opportunity escaped us," said Romero. "I can't imagine a national team without
Messi."
Meanwhile, Aguero said other players might follow the Barcelona forward's decision;
"There are several players who are evaluating not continuing with the national team," Aguero said
He added: "It is the worst defeat ever, worse than the two other finals. So the thinking is it might be time to make room for other players."
