Andy Murray becomes the World No 1 tennis
player for the first time since Novak Djokovic took the first place from Rafael Nadal in June 2014.
It was just last night that Murray was one win away from the first place but just today, Milos Raonic who was to play the Paris Masters semi-final on Saturday due to injury.
Raonic revealed he teared his right quad during his quarter-final victory over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and that he would not be able go play in the semi-final.
This handed the new World No 1 in person of Murray the final place he needed to secure the ranking, which from Monday morning will become official.
Novak Djokovic lost in the quarter-final to Marin Cilic on Friday and this opened the door for Murray as he becomes the 26th man to top the rankings since the system was introduced in 1973 and he will be the first Britain to top the standings since then.
